Philoptochos
GREEK ORTHODOX LADIES PHILOPTOCHOS SOCIETY
The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society*—often called *the right hand of the Church*—was established in 1931 and has carried out countless programs to help the poor, the sick, the elderly, and anyone in need. Today, Philoptochos is the largest Christian women’s philanthropic organization in the United States.
The word *Philoptochos* means “friend of the poor”—not only those lacking financial resources, but also those in need of comfort, health, companionship, and the support to live a fulfilling life.
Our Knoxville chapter, founded in 1946, continues this mission with dedication and compassion—supporting our local community while also contributing to national and diocesan efforts that aid people across the country and around the world.
Membership is open to Orthodox Christian women, age 18 and older, who are members of our parish.
